N5

たいです - want to do ~

〜たいです

Meaning

Expresses the speaker's own desire to do something.

Explanation

Replacing a verb's ます with たいです expresses that the speaker wants to do that action. It's normally only used for the speaker's own wishes (or, in a question, the listener's) - describing what a third party wants needs a different, more indirect pattern.

Formation

Verb stem + たいです

Examples

  • 日本へ行きたいです。

    にほんへいきたいです。

I want to go to Japan.

  • 何が食べたいですか。

    なにがたべたいですか。

What do you want to eat?
